observatory on Lookout Mountain were popular.
1910, March 31 The first mass
shipment of automobiles was delivered in Glenwood Springs. Seven
identical Fords were sold to members of the Glenwood Motor Club.
1912, August 10 The
largest bicycle race from Basalt to Glenwood
Springs was celebrated with a festival.
1912 Gambling
was banned by state law and Glenwood's slot
machines were removed.
1912 The
Lincoln Transcontinental Highway, including the
Taylor State Road through Glenwood Canyon, was
named.
1912, September 27
Abdul Baha, son of the founder of the Bahai faith,
visits Glenwood Springs during a tour of the
United States.
1913, October 1
The Citizens National Bank on the southwest
corner of 8th and Grand opened.
1914 The
Grand River Canyon was officially renamed
Glenwood Canyon by Garfield County commissioners.
1915 Garfield
County High School opened its doors to students.
1917, January5
William "Buffalo Bill" Cody visited his
friend Dr. William Crook of Glenwood Springs just
five days before Codys death in Denver.

The Glenwood
Springs Fire Department got its first
motor-driven fire engine.
1918
The polo field was converted into Glenwood
Springs' first golf course.
1918
The Colorado Midland Railroad fell into
receivership and discontinued operations.
1919 The
Federal Building on the corner of 9th and Grand
was completed. It originally housed the post
office and the federal land office.
1919
Elmer Lucas, of the Hotel Colorado, buys the
Hotel Glenwood.
1919, August 16 First
airplanes land in Glenwood Springs.
