1943
Hotel Colorado, Hot Springs pool and the Vapor Caves were commissioned as a Navy Hospital.

1945, December
The Hotel Glenwood at 8th and Grand
burned to the ground.

1948
Oil tanks on the east side of town caught fire and exploded threatening much of the town.

1948
Holiday Hill Ski Area was established where Sunlight Mountain Resort is now.

1948, Sept. 21
President Harry Truman’s train stops in Glenwood Springs on a campaign tour.

1949
The first California Zephyr train came through Glenwood Springs
