Rules & Requirements

We’d like to see creations that evoke special memories of the past. This can be a house/building, a landscape, an object, or a scene that holds a place in your heart. A short tale will accompany your entry. This competition is about connecting through stories of days gone by. So if you’ve never built with gingerbread before please don’t let the challenge deter you. Having fun and creating new traditions is the goal of this magical community competition.

Who Can Enter:

Young children to seniors are welcome to participate. Family, friend, organization, and business entries are encouraged! We will have an adult category for ages 15+ and a children's category for 14 and under. 


Please read through the following information carefully. Adult (15+) entry fee: $25.00

Kid (14 and under) entry fee: $15.00

Fill out the following Gingerbread Registration form and complete your registration payment. Entries are due by November 15th.

Each entry will be given a number which is to be attached to your gingerbread creation in either a simplistic or creative way. The story of your creation MUST accompany your gingerbread entry and should also include your entry number. The story from your past must be condensed to fit on one side of an index card. Anything more lengthy may not be judged. 

Contest Time & Location:

3:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. in the Roosevelt Room at the Hotel Colorado. Drop off creations between 10 a.m. – noon on November 25th. Use the east entrance.



There will be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winner for the adult category and one overall winner for the kids category.

Adult: 1st - $200; 2nd - $150; 3rd - $100

Kids: 1st - $50

In addition to each judged winner, there will be a People’s Choice Winner that will be judged by onlookers donating a minimum of $5.00 at the door. The People’s Choice winner will be offered a guest judge spot in next year’s gingerbread competition.

Winning entries along with their stories will be posted on our Facebook page and pictures will be displayed in the gift shop at the Frontier Historical Museum.

Judging Rules:

Gingerbread houses will be judged on creativity, detail, festiveness and most importantly, your story. This is NOT a tasting competition, but ALL parts that show MUST BE EDIBLE - excluding the base.  Base size can be no bigger than 24” x 24" for adults and 12" x 12" for kids. Designs may not extend the base. Please ensure your base is sturdy.

*Judging will be concluded by 6:00 p.m. and winners will be announced by the Hotel Colorado MC, Christian, shortly thereafter.


*The People’s Choice Winner will be announced that weekend once the votes are tallied.
